ABOUT US

History Nebraska, the state’s historical society, collects, preserves, and shares our history. In 2019, the History Nebraska Board of Trustees recognized that a Foundation that shared a name and a mission with History Nebraska was needed to meet current and future organizational goals, and so established the History Nebraska Foundation. The History Nebraska Foundation’s goal is to secure the financial resources that will enable History Nebraska to fulfill its mission in new and inventive ways to reach a twenty-first century audience.

Potential projects the History Nebraska Foundation will help fund:

  • Increased funding for the digitization of collections to make them accessible from anywhere
  • New, engaging, and interactive interpretations of Nebraska history at historic sites statewide
  • Ground-breaking virtual educational programs focused on the stories of George Norris and Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Robinson
  • New historical markers to more fully cover the scope of Nebraska’s history and tell underrepresented stories
  • Capital campaign funds
  • Operating costs not provided through state funding

Purpose:

The History Nebraska Foundation is dedicated to supporting and promoting the mission of History Nebraska to “collect, preserve, and open to all the histories we share.”

Mission:

The foundation spreads awareness of History Nebraska’s efforts and seeks financial support from those with a passion for Nebraska’s rich and diverse history.

Vision:

To have attracted the private support necessary for History Nebraska to become the most engaging and relevant state historical society in the nation.
